I was extremely lucky to be invited to see the refurbished interior and try out the new menu at The St George and Dragon. The refurbished pub, bar and restaurant located in Wargrave, just east of Reading, has a beautiful view of the River Thames and a stylish interior with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
When we arrived we were greeted with live music, a beautiful gin bar and every bloggers dream: a flower wall. The flower wall was to celebrate Tanqueray’s Seville Orange Gin which went down (a little bit too) smoothly. Our hosts were so kind and we were invited to sit down and enjoy some canapés and a drink before we were moved to the dining section of the pub. I started with a gin and tonic garnished with watermelon and mint, on the recommendation of the bartender. We were served a variety of delicious canapés: baked brie bites, vegan coconut curry, lobster and crab fishcakes served with chutney. They did not last long between the four of us and we thoroughly enjoyed this amuse bouche and it gave us a clear idea of the high standard the food was to come. The presentation was also gorgeous, with the fishcakes balanced on spoons nestled on pea purée and the vegan curry served in individual little saucepans perfect for two or three mouthfuls.
James, Max and I enjoyed freshly made cocktails, Jack was our designated driver so enjoyed the delicious soft drinks with garnishes from the gin bar! The view from The St George is so stunning, it had a happy buzz, and the new menu is just delicious; we will definitely be visiting again.
In the meantime The St George has a Mother’s Day set meal price, three courses for £24.95 and would be the perfect place to appreciate our mums, with the setting, food and beautiful interior, The St George and Dragon is a lovely lunch or dinner out.
